WashPost buries coldest day in 138 years

It’s got a good lede that should have won at least a front-page Metro slot.  Instead, buried in Saturday’s Washington Post’s Metro Section amid the obituaries on p. B5 was this startling weather note:  On Friday, October 16, 2009, in Washington, DC, the high temperature was the lowest temperature recorded for that date in 138 years! Friday’s high was a low 45 degrees. Here’s the Post:

Something happened in Washington on Friday that had not occurred in 138 years of weather history: For the first time since the National Weather Service began compiling daily data here, the high temperature for Oct. 16 was below 50 degrees.

Now, just imagine if October 16 was the warmest in 138 years – where do you think the Post would have placed the article? Surely not buried in obituaries.

I thought it appropriate.

Global Warming hysteria R.I.P.

Rather than speculating, why not SHOW US how they reacted to record high temperatures. If you were able to detect a record low temperature, surely you can use the same algorithm to determine the record high and report what the reaction was.

Show us what the Post's response was to the following:

Very clever! You are comparing media response a suburban station (Dulles Airport) which only had a 45 year record to the official station for Washington, DC (National Airport) that has a 130+ year record. Do you seriously believe they should both be given the same billing?

In the UK that sort of news item would be totally ignored by the BBC and "progressive" press (not just shunted into the shadows). Our own "Met.' Office" is a branch of the global warming industry as well.

Lord Stansted October 20, 2009 at 5:42 am

You've said it! They prefer to give 50-year ahead "climate forecasts" rather than tomorrows' weather, which they always get wrong. The UK Met Office (and the BBC) were even unable to forecast a few hours ahead of The Hurricane that hit southern England in the 1980s.

Once propagandists so consciously bury such contrary information to the narrative of AGW, we can only conclude that they have lost confidence in their religion. They are now sensitive to being exposed for what they are. Surely, these people are afraid that the gig is up on their position and feelthreatened by a mere record cold day, which this time they didn't put on page one with the caveat that weather is not climate.

Thumbs up from my men too, both enjoyed the delicious flavors of the meal. ,

The temperature of a single location for one day has nothing

to do with the effects of climate change. If you can't understand this basic concept, you can't understand any of the science behind

climate change or climatology in general.

Wake up you fools – Everything you read on this site is the narrow agenda of the wacko right-wingers from the Competitive Enterprise Institute. They put up this website to try to trick unsuspecting people to believe this has something to do with science.

This site has NOTHING TO DO WITH FACTS OR SCIENCE – ONLY THE POLITICAL AGENDA OF THE BACKWARD THINKING STONE CUTTERS.

Well now, it certainly appears that your site is doing a fair job of luring in the agw hystericysts.

I wonder how either mikey or morom would explain away how well the sun's activity is corresponding to the Earth COOLING the last few years….
