Climate history really tells us that even at times when CO2 has reached 10 times or more the amount in our present atmosphere, there has been no extinction events due to excessive heat. It was much warmer thruout the age of the dinosaurs and life thrived and evolved. Dinosaurs were known by their fossils in the Arctic and Antartic. 50 my ago world temperatures began declining, thought due to plate tectonic changes to geography that ended an equitorial warm ocean current that had branches poleward N & S. About 14 my ago ice began forming at our poles. Only 1 3/4 my ago The Pleistocene ice ages began. N. America has had 5 ice ages of at least 100,000 years duration separated by varying interglacial periods. No one can say that our present inter-glacial stage (Holocene) that we have been in the last 12,000 years is permanent. However our average temperature is several deg C below the era of the dinosaurs and remains in a glacial mode as long as ice remains at our poles. It is my belief that it is pure folly to think we are out of the ice for keeps. The Holocene has been normal with at least 4 warm periods of at least a thousand years duration separated by similar length cooler periods. We have been recovering from the Little Ice Age since around 1300 AD, a time of diminished magnetic activity (little sunspot action). Our global temperature has actually declined a fractional deg C during the past 10 years when the hype has become strident that never has our temperature increased so rapidly!
