Conventional 100-watt incandescents DO NOT meet the EISA 2007 standards that go into effect on Jan. 1, 2012. After that date, any company manufacturing or importing those bulbs will be fined, just like Westinghouse was fined $50K last year. Can you tell me the precise basis for your claim that I’ll be able to continue buying those bulbs, or are you just parroting the ACEEE emailing that I disussed in my post?

You and many others don’t like compact fluorescent bulbs, and you’re free to your opinion. I suggest you keep buying and using incandescents, which you’ll be free to do.

By the way, we often need laws to enforce the use of better things: lead-free paint, to give one example.
