The intermittent nature of wind and sunlight await the advent of a super battery to be practical for general usage. The real dilemma as I see it is in the future when man has exhausted all sources of carbon based fuels, weakening the blanketing effect of greenhouse gases until our sun is unable to prevent our planet from becoming an ice box, combined with a weakened ability to produce food. Al Gore, your hot air will be missed but it could gain you saint-hood.
