The Disconnect

What do Americans believe about global warming?

Evidently most don’t believe the globe’s small warming trend is a large problem. A recent Gallup poll said only 37% of Americans worry “a great deal” about global warming, less than last year. In fact, there are eight environmental issues that they are more worried about, including the pollution of drinking water, lakes, and reservoirs; loss of natural habitat for wildlife; and damage to the earth’s ozone layer.

And a NCPRR poll said that the majority of Americans wouldn’t even pay a penny more per gallon of gas to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, 72% of Americans said that the recent price increases in gasoline has caused financial hardship for them or their household, according to a new CNN poll.

Likewise, the world is skeptical of global warming’s crisis status.

And yet our Congress is considering a bill that would cost each American around $1,375 per year by 2030 and cause a gas price increase of 53 cents per gallon, according to the EPA(page 4), to supposedly alleviate global warming.

If Congress believes that only $600 per taxpayer of “stimulus” can keep us out of a recession, wouldn’t a $1,375 cost per individual send us into one?

These polls confirm why Al Gore’s massive new $300 million dollar ad campaign is needed to move public opinion.

It's bad - either way

Global warming is REAL! Just because the all the facts say differently doesn't make it not real. It's REAL because we want it to be real and BIG corporations are all EVIL. If global warming isn't real it would be bad for the environment. So, even if Global warming is not real it's real. So forget about the truth and buy Al Gore's book. And, if it's getting cooler not warmer, that's bad too and I'm sure that BIG corporations are causing that also! And global warming CAN cause global cooling and wind and other stuff. I read that in a book or saw it on the internet or TV so it's true. And just how do magnets work anyway?

The Collapse of the USA

"And a NCPRR poll said that the majority of Americans wouldn’t even pay a penny more per gallon of gas to reduce greenhouse gas emissions."

The fools at the Competitive Enterprise Institute think that their pro-pollution anti-environmental rhetoric serves their own interests as it protects their wealth and economic growth.

I've got some bad news for you folks: America is going to collapse. Remember the Soviet Union? That's the future of America. A sudden, complete and eternal end to the nation which is addicted to oil and warfare, and who is also so irresponsible as to consume 25% of the world's resources which generating a horrendous amount of pollution.

You are going to lose your wealth and America is going to lose its economy. End of story. Too bad for you.

And I bet that makes you very happy

Class hatred is behind all comments like your's. No facts, just seething hatred and contempt.

The US supplies unbelievable quantities of goods and benefits for most of the world and the fact that they use only 25% of the raw materials in doing so shows how efficient, and beneficial our economic and political system is.

People like you don't contribute anything to anybody and just ride along like fleas on the back of a dog while biting it.

Only 25% ... God Help us all!

"The US supplies unbelievable quantities of goods and benefits for most of the world and the fact that they use only 25% of the raw materials in doing so shows how efficient, and beneficial our economic and political system is."

Sir ... you are seriously mistaken in your priorities.

If 300 million Americans consume 25% of the world's resources does it not follow that should 1.3 billion Chinese adopt the "American Way of Life" they must be allowed to consume 100% of the world's resources?

As to the efficiency & beneficial qualities of the American economy: Is this the reason why there are Hummers on our streets and Hummers in Baghded?

I'm got some bad news for you, sir:

1. The US Dollar is declining in value at a horrific pace. Wanna guess what happens when the American dollar is worthless?

2. India and China have become addicted to both the automobile and oil. Wanna guess what happens to the price of oil when a significant number of these people buy cars and begin driving them everywhere?

3. The United States is both bankrupt and insolvent. Our country has amassed a debt of $9 trillion and has $53 trillion in unfunded liabilities. The only reason why America continues to enjoy the mirage of prosperity is because our country's excesses are financed by China, Mexico and the Middle East. Would you like to guess what happens when these countries decide that they should rather invest their money in their own countries instead/

So America does have a bleak future. America is collapsing. You people will live long enough to witness the end of the USA.

So much for your wealth & prosperity!

Your drooling happiness over

Your drooling happiness over the potential demise of the USA is sickening - especially since your are probably an American.
Give your head a shake. If the US goes under, that will be the beginning of a long period of worldwide economic stagnation and social barbarism.

As a Canadian, I'm hoping against hope that the US will get its political act together - SOON - before we, and the entire Western world are dragged into a mini dark age.

All Empires Collapse

I am an American and I am thoroughly disgusted by the reckless irresponsibility of the American people. The collapse of the USA is a natural consequence of America's own sins. Whenever a nation allows itself to become addicted to oil, addicted to debt, and addicted to perpetual wars over natural resources (see: Iraq).

> "As a Canadian, I'm hoping against hope that the US will get its political act together - SOON - before we, and the entire Western world are dragged into a mini dark age."

Canada is a subservient colony of the United States. Of course, Canada wants America to avoid collapse because Canada would not survive without its Big Brother to the South. Canada has participated in America's crimes too, so it is by no means an innocent victim.

Canada cannot ever say "No" to America. Your country might as well be the 51st state, untaxed and unrepresented, but controlled and exploited by the United States.

"The US supplies

Mr. Mathews - are you really too stupid to understand that paragraph or are you just pretending in a silly attempt to score a point?

America, the world's greatest consumers & polluters

> "Mr. Mathews - are you really too stupid to understand that paragraph or are you just pretending in a silly attempt to score a point?"

You are seriously mistaken as you are not judging the world circumstances objectively.

If 300 million people consume 25% of the world's resources ...
How much of the world's resources should the remaining 6.3 billion consume?

If one nation with 300 million citizens consume 25% of the world's resources ... how much resources should nations which populations exceeding 1 billion consume?

If a nation of 300 million people consuming 25% of the world's resources amass a debt of $9 trillion in the process, how soon before the rest of the world wearies of financing the gluttonous hyperconsumption of the 300 million?

The U.S. WILL follow the

The U.S. WILL follow the Soviet Union IF it continues to drift down the path to socialism and attempted centralized economic and social planning. If that happens, heaven help the world. The real solution for humanity is not for the U.S. to cut back on resource use, but to establish economic systems in the rest of the world that will allow them to use more, and thus raise their living standards up.
