Blowing Sunshine

Apologies for the late notice, but I had an article on the potential of solar power in last Friday’s Washington Examiner:

If the American Clean Energy and Security Act, which passed narrowly in the House of Representatives this week, also passes the Senate, does this mean that we’ll soon replace coal-derived electricity with clean and green solar power? Don’t count on it. Solar has a lot of problems, and those relying on it for the promised “green jobs” will probably be let down.

You might also be interested in the levelized cost-comparisons for building new power plants in 2016 from the Energy Information Administration, helpfully compiled by the Institute for Energy Research.  The cheapest form of energy (assuming a cost of carbon at $15 a ton)? Nuclear.  The most expensive? Solar thermal and solar photovoltaic.

The pathetic thing about our power situation is that it is entirely unnecessary. The science behind CO2 is clear on a number of points that have been made by environmentalists trying to make it the villain in AGW, and a foul pollutant like sulfur dioxide. 1) CO2 is actually a tiny but vital component in our atmosphere for the production of our food supply. Without it the Earth would be as barren as Mars or the Moon. Animal life would be impossible. Actually, 2X the present 380 ppm would cause our crops to grow better, and aid in the feeding of starving millions in poor countries. Yet our science deficient Greens want to believe that doubling CO2 would create a fatal (to humans) hot spell. 2)Paleontology tells us that during the 150 million years of the age of dinosaurs, with concentrations of 10 to 20X as much CO2 as today, plant and animal life thrived and diversified. 3)The Greens so want to put the blame on mankind for destroying the Earth that there is no level of absurdity they will not stoop to. And, to keep this badly flawed hypothesis afloat, the politicians and media follow in lock-step, a situation like the fable, "The Pied Piper of Hamelin."

franco, go back to bed, it’s 4:21 am

the earth has been in a SLIGHT cooling mode for 10 yrs! CO2 is increasing, but, CO2 levels always FOLLOW temperature rise, so it cannot be the cause! We need all the CO2 we can muster, as the earth is about to become cooler, depending on when Solar cycle 23 ends & #24 begins, will tell us how much cooler. ITS THE SUN, NOT CO2!
