This oil spill comes at a most unfortunate time. It is ammunition for the Greens to dispute offshore drilling. My understanding was that an accident to the drilling platform was responsible but the break occurred at the entrance to the drill hole on the sea floor. I thought there was a unit in place at all sea floor drill holes that could be used to seal off leaks of this type. Why do we not have tankers on stand-by equipped to sweep up this oil? My experience is limited to "sitting" on land based oil wells in the Illinois basin in 1940 and '41. But, we must utilize our hydrocarbon resources during the several decades it will require to develop an adequate supply of renewable energy, if it is possible. The sooner we get rid of this rediculous idea that CO2 is a danger to our climate the better, and get on with maintaining enough carbon based energy to avoid disasterous energy shortages during the transition. Inadequate energy will seriously impact the number of human beings this planet will support.
