European History: Cooling Bad, Warming Good, Study Confirms, Despite Gratuitous Political Correctness

During the past two millennia and more, Europe suffered during cooler, drier periods and flourished during warmer, wetter periods. That’s what any attentive reader will infer from “2500 Years of European Climate Variability and Human Susceptibility,” a study published in ScienceExpress by Swiss researcher Ulf Büntgen and 11 U.S. and European colleagues.

The study, based on the most extensive collection of proxy data from European tree ring samples ever assembled, confirms what Thomas Gale Moore of the Hoover Institution concluded in his 1998 book, Climate of Fear, namely, “happiness is a warm planet.” However, the Büntgen team leave that at the level of implication.

Indeed, the study includes politically-correct statements that are either gratuitous or intended to placate the Gorethodox. The study’s Abstract, for example, states that “Recent warming is unprecedented.” There’s no discussion of this point in the text, and the authors certainly do not attempt to derive it from or validate it with their proxy data. The study ends with what can only be described as political sermonizing:

Linking palaeo-demographic to climate proxy data challenges recent political and fiscal reluctance to mitigate projected global climate change, which reflects the common societal belief that civilizations are insulated from variations in the natural environment. The historical association between European precipitation and temperature variation, population migration and settlement desertion, however, questions the wisdom of this attitude.

Maybe mouthing pious platitudes is what scientists have to do these days to get published in prestige journals like ScienceExpress. No matter. The results of the study speak for themselves.

In a nutshell, periods of warmer temperatures and greater precipitation (the Roman Empire up to 250 A.D., aka the Roman Warm Period; Europe during 800-1200 A.D., aka the Medieval Warm Period) were also periods improved human health, prosperity, and political stability. Conversely, periods of colder temperatures and less precipitation (Europe during 250-550 A.D., aka the Dark Ages Cold Period; Europe during 1300-1700 A.D., aka the Little Ice Age) were marked by famine, plague, population displacement, and political instability.

I have been doing research in this field for the last 10 years and my contact with scientist all over indicate that this "Global Warming" is perhaps the greatest HOAX to be thrown upon the people of the world. Al Gore has stated that the poor Polar Bear is suffering the most, yet when one goes to the scientific studies of Polar bear Populations, it is shown that they had numbers of 5,000 in 1950 and now have numbers over 25,000! This is a far cry from what Al Gore and the others try to make one believe.

Others say the ice is melting and sea levels will rise, this also is very wrong. Most scientists agree that if any rise it may be just a mere 4 inches at best with a plus or minus of 4 inches! The Artic has had many times when the ice was thin and thick. In 1957 a United States Submarine broke through a small 2 feet of ice while the next year it was over 3 feet thick.

"Global Warming" is a Huge HOAX and does not need to be considered at all!

I'm currently doing a research essay on whether global warming exists or is as you said a "hoax" but there's so much information to back global warming and not so much for debating against it. I was wondering could you give me anymore examples or references to your theory?

George Ragos January 20, 2011 at 12:32 pm

…or you could simply make a carefull and sincere reading of the Climategate emails and especially at one of the most "famous" containing the notorius phrase:

"The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't".

You can find it here:
http://www.eastangliaemails.com/emails.php?eid=10

But also -please- DO read a few lines before that in what Kevin Trenberth states as EQUALLY IMPORTANT "travesty"…:

"The fact that we can not account for what is

happening in the climate system makes any consideration of geoengineering quite hopeless as we will never be able to tell if it is successful or not! It is a travesty!"

I emphasize this: "…makes any consideration of GEOENGINEERING quite hopeless…"

It is something that NO ONE HAS EVER CONSIDERED (OR DARED) TO LOOK AT…

Then please, take another really good look at the sky above you -wherever you may be…,is it blue? I really hope it is but I very much doubt it…

Is it full with chemtrails – the white 'lines' expanding to fake 'clouds', disturbing the physical weather patterns of whole continents- that EVERYONE is stairing at but NO ONE "sees" them…??? I almost certainly bet it is…!

Chemtrails (for) Geongineering (the) Climate.

Here is your proof for the Global Warming Hoax!!!

I'm curious where you get the idea that there is so much information to back global warming. I'm not aware of any tangible or empirical eveidence to support man made global warming acting on the global climate or that there is anything occurring today, which is unprecedented in terms of weather events.

If one just ignored all the alarmist noise and took a step back one would notice that there is nothing particularly different about today's "climate" than there ever was previously.

George Ragos January 24, 2011 at 11:00 am

…not aware of empirical evidence…, …nothing particularly different about today’s “climate”…?!?!?!

….!!!

Haven't you ever look up?

Not even once..?

But…, of course you do!

You just don't "see" anything…!

@ George, I am a layman to the whole subject and I had absolutely no problem finding thousands of articles refuting AGW over the course of the last few years. It makes me wonder what kind of hack researcher you are, or if you only access articles that agree with you.

Georgina,

A good first stop for information that runs counter to the politically correct "man-caused global warming" will destroy the world "scientific" point of view is the website run by Marc Morano–Climate Depot.

It's at http://www.climatedepot.com

You may be surprised by the frankness there, but push through that and examine the sources he refers.

It's all there.

Georgina, you could also check out wattsupwiththat.com. which lists many other sources. For a good laugh watch this very funny short video.

Georgina,

You need to be more critical of stories that purport to show a human connection to climate change. Most have serious issues (like the hockey stick). Even the IPCC scientists agree that there is not enough evidence to support human causation. At least that's what they all agreed to until Ben Santer re-wrote the summary for policymakers by himself in the closet. The alarmists are ALL activists, masquerading as scientists. If you find something alarming about the climate, start immediately looking for the debunking by real scientists. It's usually available within a day or two, more involved papers can take a month or two to demolish. But there really aren't very many that can hold up to scrutiny by outsiders. Replication is almost out of the question.

May I suggest a few other places to look

@ weatherhappens: From what you're implying ( …or trying to extract…) it's quite clear you're NO layman.

It's more than obvious that you also do not "see" anything…

Global warming is the biggest scam. People such as Al Gore preach for it and many others endorse it. But, instead of flying coach like the rest of us Americans, they fly in their own private plane! A hypocrite is what many of these people are.

Global Warming is real though…but it is not being caused by man. It is a natural shift in the world that happens every couple thousand years. There are mountains of data to prove it. We are actually in the middle of an ice age now, which is why we are seeing temperatures slowly rise.

Just like the stock market, the earth can't always be hot or cold, as it has to equalize itself every once in a while. The 2008 collapse was an example of the stock market, and the stagflation to come soon will do more to equalize it.

The stagflation is due to the Federal Reserve putting money into the system…to make matters worse for many many years, even before our grandfathers were born we introduced the 'fractional-reserve-system' to our banking system which also creates money. This is what is going to cause the stagflation to come soon, and is the real reason behind the 2008 crash (along with risky loaning).

Federal Reserve is a scam at best. Hopefully, we can get rid of this private banking industry that prints our governments money, and has complete control over it.

Kudos. And good luck to all you out there in your doings as the next few years will steadily get harsher and harsher….but remember, don't take everything right here as true. Question with boldness. Look up the facts, make sure that they are all true. YOU are the only one that you can trust.

F.Y.I global warming is not a scam it is a fact you need to live with!! :@
